The BlackBox is Peli's light-duty, cost-optimised portable rack case, designed for solid-state electronics that need reliable environmental protection during transport but do not require the heavy shock isolation systems of the MAC Rack or SuperMAC. The textured rotomolded polyethylene shell presents a low-visibility military appearance and is interstackable with Super-V and Euro-V cases using compatible coupling catches — a critical interoperability feature for mixed-fleet logistics operations where different families of rack cases must travel on the same vehicle or pallet. The internal rack frame is available in 24-inch (61 cm) and 30-inch (76 cm) depths.

Light-Duty Protection in a Rugged Shell

The BlackBox addresses a gap in the market between consumer-grade rack bags and bags (which offer almost no environmental protection) and full-shock-isolated military cases (which add significant weight and cost). Its standard 2-inch (5 cm) front lid and 5-inch (13 cm) rear lid provide cable egress space and some thermal management room for equipment that runs continuously inside the case. A closed-loop neoprene gasket and pressure relief valve provide IP67-equivalent sealing during transport, protecting equipment against dust ingress on desert tracks and rain exposure on open vehicle decks. The BlackBox is particularly well suited to solid-state IT equipment — managed switches, small servers, UPS units — where the main transport hazard is environmental rather than mechanical shock.

Interoperability and Range

The BlackBox is available in seven standard U sizes: 3U, 4U, 5U, 7U, 9U, 11U, and 14U, with 30-inch depth options (BlackBox30) available in 3U, 5U, 7U, and 9U. Payload capacity ranges from approximately 9 kg (3U) to 45 kg (9U). The coupling catches on the case lid allow up to four BlackBox cases to be stacked in a stable column without additional strapping hardware. European distributors typically stock the 5U and 9U models as the highest-turnover configurations; the 3U BlackBox30 is increasingly specified for transport of 1U rack-mounted communications appliances with 29-inch chassis depths.
