What is a rack case — and why the 10U size matters

A rack case is a protective transport enclosure that integrates a standard EIA 19-inch rack frame inside a rugged shell. Equipment mounts directly into the case on the same rails used in fixed rack installations — no adapters, no re-patching. The 10U designation tells you how much vertical space is available: ten rack units, each 44.45 mm tall, giving a total rack height of 444.5 mm. That is enough to hold a full-sized mixing console, a dense patch bay plus several processing units, a multi-channel amplifier stack, or a compact server build with room for cable management panels.

The Long (10U-L) depth of the Euro-V series accommodates rack frames at two depths: 610 mm (24 inches) and 762 mm (30 inches). Shallow 1U switchers, deep 2U servers, and everything in between fit within this range. If your equipment is particularly shallow, the Short variant offers the same rack height with a reduced overall case length — useful when floor space or vehicle loading bays are constrained. Choose based on the deepest unit you need to mount.

Steel rack frame and mounting system

The internal rack frame is manufactured from sturdy steel with an industry-standard square hole pattern. M6 clip nuts (sold separately) fit the square holes and accept standard rack screws, giving full metric compatibility across the rack height. The frame is available in both 610 mm and 762 mm internal depths, and can be ordered with the front rack panel position set back from the case front to allow front-panel accessibility without removing the lid. The square hole pattern is fully compatible with all standard 19-inch rack-mounted equipment including audio, video, networking, computing, and scientific instrumentation.

Shock isolation system

Cylindrical wall-mounted shock mounts isolate the steel rack frame — and everything bolted to it — from shocks and vibrations transmitted through the case shell during transport. Road vibration from vehicles, handling impacts at loading bays, and turbulence during air freight all generate mechanical energy that can loosen connectors, stress circuit boards, and degrade sensitive components over time. The shock mount system decouples the rack from the case walls so that energy is absorbed by the mounts rather than transferred to your equipment. This makes the Euro-V 10U-L suitable for road touring, air cargo, and military field operations where vibration exposure is continuous and unpredictable.

Watertight and dustproof protection

A silicone sponge O-ring gasket runs the full perimeter of the lid interface, creating a continuous seal that keeps water and dust out of the interior. A pressure relief valve (PRV) is integrated into the shell to equalise internal air pressure during air transport or rapid altitude changes, preventing the lid from being forced open or the gasket from being damaged by differential pressure. Together these features meet IP-class requirements for dust exclusion and temporary water immersion protection — appropriate for outdoor events, coastal deployments, and any environment where weather exposure is a realistic risk.

Mobility and handling

Eight ergonomic black plastic handles are distributed around the case to allow two-person carry in multiple orientations — upright, on its back, or on its side — without resting the load on a single grip point. Edge-mounted casters allow the case to be rolled on flat surfaces without requiring a separate trolley, an important practical advantage when loading out of a venue or moving through terminal concourses. Moulded stacking ribs on the top and base surfaces enable stable interstacking with other Euro-V, Super-V, and BlackBox rack cases, maximising use of vertical storage space in vehicles and warehouses.

Construction and materials

The shell is rotomoulded from polyethylene — a single-piece seamless construction method that eliminates the panel joints and corner seams that are failure points in injection-moulded cases. Hardware including hinges, latch points, and handle anchors is fabricated from corrosion-resistant black oxide stainless steel, appropriate for salt-air coastal environments and high-humidity tropical climates. The case is manufactured in Germany to consistent dimensional tolerances, ensuring that rack frame alignment and lid seal geometry are maintained across the production run.
