Product Description of Peli Euro-V 7U-L Rack Case
Overview
The Peli Euro-V 7U-L Rack Case (SKU: EURO-V-7U-L) is a professional-grade rotomoulded polyethylene transport case engineered to protect and carry 19" EIA standard rack-mounted equipment across seven rack units of internal space. The L (Long) designation refers to the extended 762 mm (30") internal rack depth, making this case the ideal choice for full-depth servers, broadcast processors, amplifiers, and other deep rack payloads that cannot be accommodated by shallow variants. Manufactured in Germany by Peli, the Euro-V 7U-L combines a lightweight, one-piece moulded shell with a precision-machined steel rack frame to deliver medium-heavy duty protection without the weight penalty of traditional welded aluminium cases.
Technical Specifications
Rack Configuration
The integrated steel rack frame follows the industry-standard 19" EIA format with a metric square hole pattern. M6 clip nuts (sold separately) insert into any hole position to provide fully flexible mounting points for rack ears, blanking panels, and cable management accessories. The rack frame supports a maximum rack depth of 762 mm (30"), accommodating full-depth 1U to 7U rack equipment in any combination. Seven rack units of usable vertical space allow for a versatile mix of devices — for example, two 2U power amplifiers plus one 1U patch bay and two additional 1U processing units with room to spare for cable routing. For operators who only need shallower payloads, the companion model EURO-V 7U-S offers the same 7U height with a reduced 610 mm (24") internal depth at a lower weight.
Shell and Hardware
The outer shell is rotomoulded from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) in a single seamless piece, eliminating joints and weld lines that are common failure points in fabricated cases. This construction technique produces a shell that is simultaneously impact-resistant, UV-stable, and resistant to oils, fuels, and most industrial chemicals. All exterior hardware — hinges, latches, and handle brackets — is finished in black oxide stainless steel, providing corrosion resistance in maritime and outdoor environments without the need for periodic re-coating. The case is finished in black.
- Material: Rotomoulded HDPE (one-piece construction)
- Colour: Black
- Hardware finish: Black oxide stainless steel
- Compliance: 19" EIA rack standard, metric M6 square hole pattern
- Internal rack depth: 762 mm (30") — Long variant
- Internal rack height: 7U (7 × 44.45 mm = 311.15 mm usable)
Sealing and Environmental Protection
The lid and body mate along a machined channel sealed by a silicone sponge O-ring gasket, creating a watertight and dustproof closure compliant with IP67 requirements when properly latched. A built-in automatic pressure relief valve (PRV) equalises internal air pressure during air transport and altitude changes, preventing the case from bowing or becoming difficult to open after a flight — a critical feature when deploying broadcast or military equipment to high-altitude sites or transporting by cargo aircraft. The combination of the silicone O-ring and PRV ensures that equipment arrives in the same condition it left, regardless of the atmospheric conditions encountered in transit.
Shock and Vibration Isolation
The steel rack frame is decoupled from the outer shell via a set of cylindrical wall-mounted shock mounts positioned at the perimeter of the rack bay. These elastomeric isolators attenuate high-frequency vibration from road, rail, and air transport and absorb the impulse loads of drops and collisions before they reach the equipment. The shock mount system is tuned for medium-heavy rack payloads and provides significantly better isolation than foam-lined cases or rack cases without dedicated isolators. Sensitive instruments, signal processors, and storage arrays benefit most from this decoupled mounting architecture.
Mobility and Field Handling
Despite its large internal volume, the Euro-V 7U-L is designed for efficient movement by small crews. Eight ergonomically profiled black plastic carrying handles — four per side — distribute the load across both hands and allow two-person lifts without awkward grip positions. Four edge-mounted casters (two fixed, two swivel) allow the case to be rolled in an upright orientation directly onto loading docks, into trucks, or along corridors without lifting. The casters retract or fold flush when not in use, preventing snagging and allowing the case to stack flat. Moulded stacking ribs on the top and bottom surfaces interlock with other Euro-V series cases for stable multi-case stacks during storage and transit.
- Carrying handles: 8 ergonomic black plastic handles (4 per side)
- Casters: 4 edge-mounted casters (2 fixed, 2 swivel)
- Stacking: Moulded interlocking ribs, compatible with Euro-V series
Typical Applications
Broadcast and Live Production
Television outside broadcast trucks, live event production companies, and rental houses use the Euro-V 7U-L to transport vision mixers, multi-channel audio interfaces, routing switchers, and signal distribution amplifiers. The 762 mm internal depth accommodates full-depth broadcast-grade equipment that cannot fit in a standard 480 mm or 610 mm case. The shock-isolated rack frame protects sensitive video and audio processing cards from the constant vibration of OB vehicles driving between venues.
Military and Government
Field-deployable command and control systems, communications racks, and electronic warfare equipment require a case that withstands rough handling, variable climate conditions, and the potential for immersion during river crossings or shipboard operations. The Euro-V 7U-L's IP67-rated seal, black oxide hardware, and rotomoulded shell meet these requirements without the corrosion and maintenance issues associated with painted steel or aluminium alternatives.
IT Infrastructure and Data Centre Deployment
Systems integrators and managed service providers use the Euro-V 7U-L to ship and deploy pre-configured rack units to customer sites. Full-depth servers, NAS appliances, UPS units, and patch panels benefit from the 762 mm internal depth and the shock-isolated mounting. The PRV makes the case compatible with international air freight without requiring pressure-compensation modifications.
Compatibility and Ordering Notes
The EURO-V-7U-L ships without rack accessories; M6 clip nuts, blanking panels, and cable management brackets must be ordered separately. The case is compatible with all standard 19" rack-mount ears and slides. For a shallower payload configuration at the same 7U height, the EURO-V-7U-S (610 mm / 24" depth) is the recommended alternative. For a taller rack bay, consider the EURO-V 8U-L (8 rack units, 762 mm depth) or the EURO-V 9U-S (9 rack units, 610 mm depth) depending on payload requirements. All Euro-V variants share the same footprint and interlock for multi-case stacking.
