Peli 1520 Protector Case

The Peli 1520 Protector Case is a medium-format hard case built around a single premise: the contents arrive in exactly the condition they left. Watertight to IP67, crushproof, and dustproof, the 1520 is injection-moulded from Peli's high-performance HPX polymer and assembled in Germany to the same standards that put Peli cases in medical field teams, law enforcement vehicles, and professional camera bags worldwide. It is neither the smallest case in the Protector line nor the largest — it sits at a useful middle size that fits a DSLR with lenses, a compact video camera, portable diagnostic instruments, or any kit that needs hard-shell protection without occupying the space of a full transit case.

Sealed and pressure-balanced

The watertight seal runs the full perimeter of the case: a continuous O-ring seated in a machined channel, compressed evenly when the double-throw latches close. There are no corner gaps, no bridged sections, no pressure points — the seal either holds or it does not, and Peli certifies it to IP67 (submersible to one metre for thirty minutes). Dust, sand, and fine particulate have no entry path. The crushproof shell distributes impact load across the wall geometry rather than concentrating it at a single point.

The automatic pressure equalization valve is a passive membrane mounted flush in the case wall. It releases overpressure when the interior is warmer or at higher altitude than the outside, and admits air as pressure normalises — without ever admitting liquid. Cases sealed at sea level open cleanly at altitude, and equipment that was dry when packed stays dry when unpacked.

Three interior configurations

The 1520 ships in three configurations, each designed for a different packing approach:

• No Foam — clean interior for custom inserts, pre-cut foam kits, organisers, or instruments that ship in their own trays and pouches. This configuration is also the starting point for any custom foam job.
• With Foam — pre-installed Pick N Pluck™ foam in the base and convoluted (egg-crate) foam in the lid. The base foam is pre-scored into cubes that pull out by hand: work your way down from the top surface, remove cubes layer by layer, and create a shaped recess that holds your equipment precisely. No knives, no templates. The convoluted lid foam adds a secondary damping layer against the top surface of the equipment.
• With Dividers — soft-lined hook-and-loop divider panels that form padded compartments without foam cutting. Compartments are reconfigurable in minutes, making this the right choice for photographers and technicians who regularly repack between assignments. Fabric-lined surfaces protect lens coatings, polished finishes, and screen edges from abrasion.

Hardware that performs in the field

The latches, hinges, and security hardware on the 1520 are stainless steel — not plated zinc, not anodised aluminium. Repeated wet handling, salt air, and exposure to cleaning agents leave no mark. Two padlock-protector loops are moulded into the latch area, accepting a standard padlock through the latch bar and a security cable through the handle mount. The carry handle features a rubber over-mould for grip comfort during longer walks. The lid-to-base hinge is continuous and moulded in, eliminating the pivot-pin failure that affects lesser cases over time.

Six colours

The 1520 is available in six HPX shell colours across all three interior configurations: Black, Yellow, Orange, Desert Tan, Odd Green, and Silver. Colour variants follow Peli's standard European SKU convention and are stocked at consistent inventory levels. Colour coding simplifies kit management on set, in a vehicle, or across a shared equipment pool — a specific case always means a specific kit.
