A 5U rack case built to survive the load-in

Rack gear rarely lives in one place for long. It gets wheeled across gravel to a stage, air-freighted to a broadcast location, or bolted into a van for a season of touring — and every one of those moves is a chance for a fragile 19-inch chassis to get knocked, dropped, or soaked. The Peli BlackBox 5U 30-inch Rack Mount Case exists to remove that risk. It pairs a 5-rack-unit steel frame with an impact-resistant Black-463 resin shell, so the electronics inside a road case never have to be the weak link.

A shell that takes the hit instead of your gear

The case is built from durable Black-463 blended resin for excellent impact resistance and reliable light-to-medium-duty protection. Inside, a 30-inch (76.2 cm) deep light-duty steel rack frame with a corrosion-resistant zinc black finish meets ANSI/EIA 310-C standards, the same mounting spec used across broadcast, audio and IT racks, so existing 19-inch equipment slides straight in. The frame is rated to carry payloads up to 45.4 kg, enough for a stacked signal chain, amplifiers, or a compact server run.

Shock isolation, not just a hard shell

A tough exterior only solves half the problem — vibration and sudden shocks can still damage sensitive electronics from the inside. Eight cylindrical elastomeric shock mounts are attached directly to the case shoulders, holding the rack frame away from the shell and providing 2 inches (5.1 cm) of sway space. That gap absorbs drops, bumps in transit, and the low-grade vibration of a truck bed or flight hold before it ever reaches the equipment.

Working access from both ends

The front and rear lids have interior depths of 2.2 inches (5.6 cm) and 5.2 inches (13.2 cm) respectively, and both are removable — a real advantage when patching cables or servicing gear that's mounted deep in the frame, since there's no need to pull the whole rack out to reach the back panel. Molded-in 3.25-inch (82.6 mm) edge casters let one person roll the loaded case across a venue floor, and four plastic comfort-grip handles make the short lifts — onto a truck lip, up a curb, into a flight case cart — noticeably easier.

Sealed and stackable for the long haul

A closed-loop gasket and an integrated pressure relief valve keep the interior airtight and watertight, protecting the contents from dust ingress on a dusty festival site and rain during an outdoor load-in alike. Spring-loaded stainless steel hardware with a nickel black finish holds it all shut securely, and the molded-in rib design adds stacking strength and interlocking, so a stack of cases in a truck or warehouse stays put instead of shifting in transit. It's the kind of sealed, rack-grade construction that has made Peli's case lines a fixture in broadcast and touring inventories for decades.
