Why the latch is part of the seal

Peli latches are retained by a hinge pin. To remove a damaged latch, tap the pin out using a suitable punch and a hammer — never lever it with a screwdriver, which damages the case body and deforms the pin. With the old latch free, seat the new latch in the same position and tap the pin back in until it sits flush. The double-step design then operates as before: press to the first step to release tension, and fully to the second to open. No adhesives, no special tools beyond a punch and hammer, and no modification to the case are required.
