Peli Storm Case IM3100 - Long Gun Case

Some cases are bought for one trip. The Peli Storm iM3100 tends to be bought once and then simply keeps turning up — at the range on a cold morning, in an aircraft hold, in the back of a truck on the way to a survey site. It is the long member of the Storm family: a watertight, crushproof hard case sized for rifles, carbines with optics and shotguns, and equally at home with tripods, survey rods, antennas and long tools. It shares its engineering DNA with the Peli Protector line, with one defining difference — the Press & Pull latches, which lock themselves the moment the lid closes and release under a fingertip.

Built for Long Guns and Long Gear

The interior measures 92.7 × 35.6 × 15.2 cm, split into a 10.2 cm deep base and a 5.1 cm deep lid. That is enough length to carry a full-size rifle without stripping the optic off first, and enough width to lay a second barrel, a cleaning kit or spare magazines alongside it. Outside, the case measures 101.1 × 41.9 × 17 cm — a footprint that still passes as checked baggage on most airlines. In the Peli range it is the Storm counterpart of the Peli 1700 Protector, so if you already know that size, you know exactly what will fit.

Six Press & Pull latches are spaced along the full length of the lid rather than clustered at the ends, so clamping force stays even and the seal does not bow in the middle — the failure point of long cases with too few closures.

Watertight, Crushproof, Dustproof

A moulded O-ring runs the perimeter of the lid, and an automatic Vortex® pressure equalisation valve lets air move in and out while keeping water and dust where they belong. In practice that means the case does not fight you when you open it after a flight, and rain, spray, dust and salt air stay outside. The iM3100 is certified to MIL-STD-810, FED-STD-101C and ATA 300, and it floats: buoyancy is rated at 51.3 kg, so a loaded case dropped off a jetty or a boat deck stays on the surface.

Locking and Air Travel

Two padlockable hasps take standard padlocks or TSA-approved locks — the practical requirement for declaring a firearm as checked baggage. Because the Press & Pull latches close automatically, there is no half-latched lid to discover at the check-in desk: press the lid down, and the case is shut.

Easy to Move When Loaded

A long case that has to be dragged is a long case that gets left behind. The iM3100 carries two double-layered, soft-grip handles — one on the end, one on the side — and in-line wheels built into the shell, so one person can tip it up and roll it through a terminal or across a car park without help. The soft-grip material makes a real difference when the case is fully loaded and you still have 300 m of concourse to cover.

Lightweight HPX® Resin

The shell is injection moulded from Peli's HPX® high performance resin, which stays impact resistant at very low temperatures instead of turning brittle — the reason these cases are trusted on winter deployments and at altitude. Empty weight is just 6.9 kg, or 9 kg with the full foam set, so the case itself does not eat your baggage allowance.

Foam or No Foam?

Both configurations are available in black and OD Green:

• With foam — 5.1 cm convoluted foam in the lid and a 1.3 cm solid layer in the base. The convoluted lid presses down on the contents and holds them still; ready to use straight out of the box.
• No foam — an empty shell for anyone fitting their own solution: a cut-to-shape insert, a rifle cradle, a fitted bag or a custom panel system.
