Installation

Replacing latches and handles on a Peli Air 1615 requires basic hand tools and typically takes 15–30 minutes per component:

1. Open the case fully and lay it flat on a workbench.
2. Remove the old latch or handle by driving out the retaining pin. Always use a punch (wybijak) and a hammer — never a screwdriver, which can damage the pin head and score the hinge boss.
3. Tap the pin out from the inside face of the boss toward the outside of the case in a controlled, straight stroke.
4. Lift the worn component clear, noting the orientation of any internal spring clips.
5. Position the new latch or handle over the mounting boss, aligning the pin holes.
6. Reinsert the original pin from the outside, tapping it gently into place with a punch and hammer until it seats flush.
7. Test the latch or handle several times before reassembling or loading the case.

If a latch feels stiff after installation, check that the pin is fully seated and that no polymer flash is obstructing the pivot recess. Do not apply lubricant to the latch mechanism; the self-lubricating polymer bushings are designed to run dry.
