Small impacts repeat hundreds of times. That is often enough to loosen fittings, crack housings, or damage calibration. Skid-Mate Tan is designed to reduce those forces at the source. It adds a damped interface between the pallet base and the ground. This helps protect sensitive loads during handling and transport.

Tan is the lightest load class in the Skid-Mate system. It is made for loads that are too light for higher classes. This is important, because damping elements work best inside a target range. When a pad is correctly loaded, it compresses as designed. It can then absorb shocks and reduce vibration transfer. If a pad is overloaded, it bottoms out. If it is underloaded, it becomes less effective. Tan helps you stay in the sweet spot for very light pallet builds.

Our version is built for European installations. It uses an M8 threaded fitting for metric mounting hardware. This listing is for the pad only. We sell it without screws and without the spacer. The spacer is a separate product. Use it only when additional clearance is required.

What the Tan load class is for

Skid-Mate Tan is designed for 9.1–15.9 kg per pad. This range corresponds to 20–35 lb per pad. It is ideal when your palletized load is light, yet sensitive. It is also useful when you can use more pads to distribute weight evenly. This improves stability and keeps damping consistent.

Tan is often chosen for compact kits, small instruments, or delicate assemblies. It can also help when the load has fragile internal parts. Examples include optical components, precise sensors, and lab devices. In these cases, reducing repeated vibration can be as important as impact protection.

Metric build with M8 fitting

The M8 fitting supports a clean, standardized mounting concept. Choose your own bolt length and washer setup. Match it to your pallet base thickness and your skid frame design. Hardware is not included, because builds vary. Some customers mount to wooden bases. Others mount to metal skid frames. The M8 standard keeps both options simple.

A common starting point is one pad per corner. Then you calculate load per pad. Divide total load weight by pad count. Aim for 9.1–15.9 kg on each pad. Add pads if you exceed the range. Reduce pads if you are far below the range. Keep weight distribution even across the base.

Why pad-only matters

Many customers want control over mounting hardware. Some use stainless fasteners. Some use locking nuts. Some use thread lockers and torque specs. Selling pad-only makes integration cleaner. It also prevents incorrect screw selection. You get the pad that defines performance. You decide how it integrates into your pallet system.

The pad is a compact, round element designed for pallet bases. Typical diameter is about 153 mm. Typical height is about 73 mm without the spacer. If you need additional pallet-jack clearance, use the separate spacer product. Do not improvise with random blocks. Consistent height matters for stability and load sharing.
