Skid-Mate spacer – height extension for M8 pallet damping pads
Skid-Mate pads do two jobs at once. They damp shocks and reduce vibration. They also lift the pallet base from the ground. In many builds, the pad height is enough. In other builds, you need more clearance. That is where the Skid-Mate spacer comes in.
This spacer is designed to work with Skid-Mate pallet damping pads that use an M8 fitting. It adds height under the pad and increases clearance for pallet jacks and forks. It also helps when the pallet base has recessed mounting points. Some customers use it to standardize a single clearance across different load classes. The goal is simple: predictable handling without changing your damping pad choice.
What the spacer actually changes
The spacer does not replace the damping pad. It does not create damping on its own. It is a structural height extension. It sits under the pad and increases overall stack height. This can reduce scraping on uneven floors. It can also improve entry angle for pallet trucks. For many logistics setups, this is the difference between “works sometimes” and “works always”.
A second benefit is stability. When a pallet base is designed around a fixed clearance, everything aligns better. Fork pockets stay consistent. Stacking height becomes more repeatable. The spacer helps keep your base geometry stable across builds. This is useful for fleet-style packaging where the same pallet system is reused.
Compatibility and mounting concept
This spacer is intended for Skid-Mate pads with an M8 fitting. It is a modular component in the system. You can use it with different pad colors and load classes. That includes very light pads and heavy-load pads. The spacer helps you keep the same handling height even when the load class changes.
Mounting hardware is not included. Base designs vary too much for a single screw length. Some customers mount into wood. Others mount into metal frames. Some use washers and locking nuts. Choose fasteners that match your pallet base thickness and your torque standard.
When you should use a spacer
Low clearance under the pallet
If the base rubs on dock plates or rough floors, add clearance. The spacer helps prevent scraping and sudden jolts. It also improves handling on ramps and thresholds.
Pallet-jack access issues
If pallet trucks struggle to enter, clearance is often the problem. A higher base reduces entry resistance. It also reduces the risk of pad contact during insertion.
Standardizing multiple builds
If you use different pad load classes across products, heights can vary. The spacer helps you standardize a single working clearance. This simplifies training, packing, and warehouse routines.
What you receive
You receive the Skid-Mate spacer only. Damping pads are not included. Screws are not included. If you need pads, order them as a separate product.

Planning tips
Keep your base rigid and flat. Ensure every spacer sits square to the mounting surface. Use the same spacer height on all corners. Avoid mixing random shims with spacers. Consistent geometry is the key to even load sharing.
