Every Wizz Air booking reaches the same screen: a small bag is included, a big bag costs extra, and the extra is called WIZZ Priority. The price changes by route, by season and by how many days before departure you are looking at it, and the screen does not tell you the two things that actually decide whether it is worth paying: what you would otherwise do with the second bag, and whether the case you own fits the frame it buys. This article answers those, in nine questions. 1. What does WIZZ Priority actually buy? 🎫
Three things. First, a second cabin bag of up to 55 x 40 x 23 cm and 10 kg, on top of the free 40 x 30 x 20 cm bag that every passenger has. Second, priority boarding, which on Wizz means the first boarding group and therefore an overhead bin above your own seat rather than three rows back. Third, a guarantee that the big bag travels in the cabin: without Priority, any bag larger than 40 x 30 x 20 cm is not allowed on board at all, and with it, Wizz undertakes to find bin space, though on a completely full flight the last Priority bags can still be gate-tagged into the hold at no charge. Priority is bought per passenger per flight, and it is usually cheapest at booking, more at check-in and most at the airport.
2. Is the free bag really enough? 👜
The free bag is 40 x 30 x 20 cm and up to 10 kg, and it must fit under the seat in front. That is a large daypack or a small holdall: two or three days of summer clothes with a toiletry bag, or a laptop, a change of clothes and a book. It is not a suitcase. If your trip is a weekend and you pack with discipline, the free bag is enough and Priority is money spent on boarding order. If your trip is a week, or you travel with a camera, or you want a wheeled case, it is not enough, and the question becomes which of Wizz's paid options is cheapest for what you carry.

3. Priority or a 10 kg checked bag: which is cheaper? 💶
This is the comparison most people never make. Wizz sells a small checked bag of up to 10 kg as well as the 20 and 32 kg options, and on many routes and dates the 10 kg hold bag costs less than Priority. The trade-offs are real: the hold bag means a wait at the belt and no access in flight, and it goes through the baggage system; Priority means the bag stays with you and you board first. But if what you are carrying is clothes, a 10 kg checked bag at a lower price than Priority is the rational choice, and the free 40 x 30 x 20 bag carries the laptop and the essentials. If what you are carrying is a camera, a drone or anything you would not check, Priority is the only option that keeps it in the cabin, and the price comparison does not apply. 4. What does the sizer do to a hard case? 🧱
Wizz Air uses its sizers, at check-in and at the gate, and a hard case either fits or it does not. The Priority frame is 55 x 40 x 23 cm, which is the standard European cabin size, and every Peli cabin case sits inside it: the Air 1535 at 55.8 x 35.5 x 22.8 cm, the 1510 at about 55.9 x 35.1 x 22.9 cm, the ATX HC22 at 55.9 x 35.6 x 23.1 cm. The last figure is a millimetre over on paper and inside every Wizz sizer we have seen; the width on all three is 4 to 5 cm under the frame. The free-bag frame is 40 x 30 x 20 cm, and no Peli cabin case fits it, which is the point of the block above: the 1200, 1300, 1400 and Storm iM2100 are the Peli cases that go under the seat without Priority. The 10 kg weight applies to each bag and Wizz enforces it with a scale at the desk; a 1510 with foam is 5.4 kg before you put anything in it, an Air 1535 is 3.95 kg.
5. What happens if you show up with the big bag and no Priority? 🚫
The bag is measured, refused as cabin baggage, and checked into the hold at the airport rate for oversized cabin baggage, which is several times the price of Priority bought at booking and more than a 20 kg hold bag added online. This is the fee that pays for Wizz's low fares, and it is applied without much negotiation. The same happens to a Priority passenger whose bag is over 55 x 40 x 23 cm or over 10 kg. The rule of thumb: if there is any chance you will travel with a bag bigger than 40 x 30 x 20 cm, decide at booking, not at the gate.
6. Who gets Priority without paying for it? ⭐
Priority is bundled into several things that people forget they have. The WIZZ Plus bundle and the higher fare bundles include it. WIZZ Discount Club membership does not include it but reduces its price. Passengers travelling with an infant, and passengers who have bought an extra seat, get a second bag by different rules. If you fly Wizz more than a few times a year, the bundle or the membership usually costs less than buying Priority each time; if you fly twice a year, pay per flight. Check what is already in the booking before adding it again, because the airline will happily sell it twice.

7. Is the boarding order worth anything on its own? 🚪
More than it sounds. Wizz Air flies dense A320 and A321 cabins, and on a full flight the bins are full before the last boarding groups reach their rows; without Priority, even a compliant free bag can end up several rows away or, when the under-seat space is taken by an earlier passenger's oversized bag, in the hold. Boarding first means your bag is above your seat and off the aircraft in the first minute. It is also the difference between a window seat with a bin and an aisle seat with a walk. On a one-hour hop with a small bag it is not worth money; on a four-hour flight with a laptop and a camera it is part of the value.
8. What about batteries, liquids and the things that cannot go in the hold? 🔋
The reason Priority is not just a price question. Power banks and spare lithium batteries must travel in the cabin, never in a checked bag; if the only bag you have in the cabin is the free 40 x 30 x 20 one, that is where they live, and it fills fast with a laptop and a camera battery set. Liquids are the 100 ml rule in either bag. Anything valuable or fragile should be in the bag that stays with you. 9. So: worth it, or not? ✅
Worth it when you carry something that cannot be checked, when the trip is longer than a weekend and you want a wheeled case, when you fly Wizz often enough that the bundle or membership price applies, and when the flight is long and full enough that boarding first matters. Not worth it when the free bag holds everything for a short trip, when what you carry is clothes and a 10 kg hold bag is cheaper on that date, and when you already have it in a bundle and are about to buy it again.
